The music on this page is "Wind Beneath My
Wings," made famous by a LOT of people. Bette Midler happens to be my
favorite.

Please remember that all of my paintings are copyrighted works. You may download
and print out for your own enjoyment but you may not otherwise reproduce,
copy, alter, etc. I'm REALLLLLLLLY fussy about copyright....
These are older works... I have a whole series of Mexico (painted for an
exhibition in early 1996), and now have moved on to a more impressionistic
style with more lively colors. Not necessarily better or worse, just
different.
Papa, Cache Valley
20x24, Oil, © 1995
This will probably always be my favorite painting.
In 1994, when my father was 78, I painted this portrait from a photograph
taken when he was about 65. His hat and face are from the photo, the jacket
is from one he had many years ago, the gunbelt is from his Colt .45, and
the rest is just out of my memory from what I know about cattlemen.
Papa was very ill at the time and I was afraid he would die before I finished,
so I kept taking in-progress Polaroid® photos and sending them to him.
When I gave the finished painting to him, on Christmas 1994, he grinned from
ear to ear, his old eyes filled with tears, and he had to leave the room
because he was a tough old bird and did not like to display emotion in front
of others. He loved this painting beyond belief... he was so flattered that
I would want to paint him... and I knew then that I had touched his big,
soft heart better than I could have done in any other way.
I have just finished a portrait of him from a photograph taken at 79 years
and 7 months. A promise kept at last. He died on June 22, 1996, at 79 years,
8 months, and 5 days, breaking this child's heart forever.

UNA ROSA POR MI AMIGA
(A Rose For My Friend)
16x20, Oil, © 1994
I painted this in honor of one of my best friends, Yolanda Cruz. If you look
closely, you will see that the name of the place is Cantina Yolanda. This
painting has won more awards than any of my paintings thus far. It's not
a specific place... it's all from memories of my sojourn in Baja California
del Sur. I have a deep and abiding love and respect for Mexico and the Mexican
people. Had I been an artist at the time I was there, I might never have
returned to the good ol' USA.
PISKO-WIN
(Hawk Woman)
16x20, Oil, © 1994
After nearly a year and considerable thought, I have decided that I do
not wish to share the story behind this painting, except to say that it began
from a drawing I did before I ever knew I could do oil paintings. Instead,
I want to dedicate it to the memory of Anna Mae Aquash. Please visit
my Very Special Places page to find out more.
MI ANGELITA
(My Angie)
16x20, Oil, © 1995
The model for this painting was my granddaughter, Angelita. I like to use
my family and friends in my paintings... they are easier to paint and capture
a likeness because I know and love them. They work cheap, too.
LEGACY
22x28, Oil, © 1995
It is wonderful that there are still people who preserve the old ways, whether
in craftsmanship, ceremony, art, music, or life in general. This painting
includes some items I am privileged to have in my eclectic collection of
beautiful things - a Maria platter, an exquisite miniature corn basket, a
silver and turquoise bracelet, and some Indian corn. The background is Taos
Pueblo.
To continue your tour of my art works, just grab a hold of that
brush...again. C'mon... you remember how to do it!
