These are the lyrics to the National Anthem of the Philippines as translated
into Tagalog by Felipe P. de Leon. Immediately following is the English
translation by M.A.L. Lane.("National Anthems of the World", edited by W.L.
Reed and M.J. Bristow, Blandford Press, 1985.)
1. Bayang magiliw, Perlas ng silanganan, Alab ng puso, Sa dib-dib mo'y
buhay.
2. Lupang hinirang, Duyan ka ng magiting, Sa manlulupig, Di ka pasisiil.
3. Sa dagat at bundok, Sa simoy at sa langit mong buhaw, May dilag ang tula
At awit sa paglayang minamahal.
4. Ang kislap ng watawat mo'y Tagumpay na nagniningning, Ang bituinat araw
niya, Kailan pa ma'y di magdidilim.
5. Lupang Araw, ng luwalhati't pagsinta, Buhay ay langit sa piling mo; Aming
ligaya, na pag ma'y mangaapi, Ang mamatay nang dahil sa iyo.
1. Land of the morning, Child of the sun returning, With fervour burning,
Thee do our souls adore.
2. Land dear and holy, Cradle of noble heroes, Ne'er shall invaders trample
thy sacred shore.
3. Ever within thy skies and through thy clouds And o'er thy hills and sea,
Do we behold the radiance, Feel the throb of glorious liberty.
4. Thy banner dear to all our hearts, Its sun and stars alight, O never shall
its shining field be dimmed by tyrant's might.
5. Beautiful land of love o land of light, In thine embrace 'tis rapture
to lie; But it is glory ever when thou art wronged for us, thy sons to suffer
and die.
Verses 1 and 2 are sung to the first two repeating phrases of the song, the
"A" part.
Verses 3 and 4 are sung to the next repeating phrase, the "B" part.
Verse 5 is sung to the phrase after that, known as the "trio" in most
marches.
Verses 1 and 2 are repeated to the end of the song.
